On February 23, Brookside Gardens will be hosting a Green Matters symposium on urban trees and forestry. “Green Matters, an annual symposium, concentrates attention on environmental issues with which we are currently faced and over which we have some control. Environmental stewardship is a core value of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Brookside Garden’s parent organization. As such, we strive to provide timely information and viable solutions to environmental challenges, because we feel strongly that green does matter. The 2007 Green Matters Symposium focuses on the topic of trees.”

The South Silver Spring Neighborhood Association has a website. It is in BLOG form that residents can comment on and includes a Community Guide. The site is very innovative with an integrated Event Calander. The Community Guide takes the form of a wiki. This is the only community website of it’s kind that I have seen in our area. The website contains information about local parks, businesses and residences in the community, as well as information about business that provide services to South Silver Spring.
Congratulations to South Silver Spring – I think the new site looks great! And Last but not least, for the ultimate in Home Improvement and Bathroom renovation….. I recieved an email from Roto Rooter, I have used them in my Real Estate business and at home over the last few years. They are great in an emergency and at a reasoanble charge. I was surprised when they sent me this email about giving away a TRICKED OUT TOILET? in their PIMPED Out JOHN sweepstakes. This is for Real? What will they think of next?

BRRRR– It is so hard to think right now that it will EVER be Summertime Again! But the Oakview Recreation Corporation is getting an early start planning their 50th Anniversary Season and they would like your HELP!
The Oakview Pool was the first Community Neighborhood Swimming Pool in Mongomery County. The Oakview Pool opened in 1957. Silver Spring, Md Happy 50th Anniversary to Four Corners Animal Hospital
January 17th, 2007 Categories: 4 Corners, Houses in Silver Spring, Real Estate, Real Estate Market, Silver Spring Bussiness', Silver Spring Neighborhoods, South 4 Corners, Woodmoor
Four Corners Animal Hospital was established in 1957, and moved to its present location in 1963. Through Dr. Rosswell Bowersett, Sr., and Dr. Bowersett, Jr., they have seen two generations of Silver Spring clients. In 1988, Dr. Bowersett, Jr., began working at Four Corners with his dad. Dr. Rosswell Bowersett, Sr., worked daily with the practice from 1957 until his death in July 2000. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Presently, Dr. Bowersett, Jr. owns and runs Four Corners Animal Hospital as a sole proprietor.
Ros Bowersett, Jr., DVM, MPH (University of Georgia 1988 & Johns Hopkins University 2006) is the primary veterinarian and owner of Four Corners Animal Hospital. Ros is a Silver Spring native and graduated from Springbrook High School (yeah! GO BLUE DEVILS) where he was on the wrestling team. Like his father, he graduated from the University of Georgia. Dr.Bowersett operated an ambulatory equine practice from 2001-2005, serving Montgomery and Howard Counties. In the Spring of 2006 he completed his training in public health. In addition to enjoying clinical veterinary medicine, Dr. Bowersett is also interested in zoonotic disease
research. Anyone who drives through 4 Corners on University Blvd. will recognize the unique and striking Mid Century Modern Building with it’s blue tile and DVM symbol on the front. They are located at 105 University Boulevard West. I have been taking my pets to the Dr.’s Bowerset, Jr and Senior for over 17 years. I miss The Senior Dr. Bowersett very much, but his son is very much like him in many ways.  I can vouch for his love and care of all the animals that come to the Hospital, and ANY animal abandoned or in trouble anywhere!  He’s a GREAT vet, supported by a great staff. So, to Ros and Staff at the Four Corners Animal Hospital Congratulations on your 50th year as (In my opinion) Silver Spring, Maryland’s Best Veternarians!

Fond Farewell to the Silver Spring, Md Horses
January 8th, 2007 Categories: East Silver Spring, Silver Spring Neighborhoods, Silver Spring Parks
Remember the Mounted Park Police Horses that patroled Downtown Silver Spring? Every Thursday they patrolled my East Silver Spring Neighborhood. I used to love seeing them walk slowly down the street. I thought they added a charming and nostalgic touch to Silver Spring. Especially when riding down Georgia Avenue near the Discovery Building, What a Contrast! Cool! The horse trailer would be parked at the Sligo Avenue Police Station and after the day’s patrol the officers would load the horses up here and go home. I missed seeing the horses in 2006, thought maybe I had just been too busy to notice them, but I understand that the County stopped funding for the patrol last year. I’ve been told they still patrol the Parks  but I, for one, really miss seeing them on the streets of Silver Spring! I think they detered crime, gave the officers more visibility and were able to go a lot of places that a police car can’t! Maybe they should bring them back now!
